this is harder than i thought...

I deactivated my Facebook account yesterday for Lent. I also have sworn off caffeine (coffee, specifically) and booze for the duration. The caffeine wasn't hard...I'd been cutting back anyway to help treat my reflux. I often will have a beer or a glass of wine while I'm cooking dinner (does that count as an aperitif?), so that switch has been a little harder to make. The good news is that I've been drinking more water and herbal tea as replacement, so I'm looking forward to the health benefits I'm sure will follow in the next couple of weeks. The first couple of days are the hardest when giving up a routine...I checked Facebook many times per hour throughout the day (mainly because of the app on my phone). I've since been tweeting a lot more instead. Yes yes, it might be cheating to only give up one social media site and keep the others (hi, Blogger!), but Facebook was the biggest time suck. And I didn't even find myself caring too much about what I was reading anyway. It's good to disconnect for a bit.

I've lost the motivation of my "work day" that I had back in January. The last thing I want to do is log on and work in the mornings, but I do because I can collect a paycheck unshowered with a cat on my lap. I don't think I could make a solid career of working from home. Nope. I don't have enough drive to keep myself going day-to-day. Part of it may be that I'm still doing the same work I was doing up in Boston, which is incredibly tedious and redundant. Perhaps if I were doing something new and challenging every day, my motivation would be better. In the meantime, I'm contemplating taking a nap, even though I've only been awake for four hours at this point (lack of caffeine, yes?).

The great news is that it's supposed to be a beautiful day today. Some parts of the area are supposed to hit 70ยบ, but it's probably not going to get that warm here. I'm hoping it'll be at least 65, so I can open the windows for the first time since we moved in. It feels SO spring-like!

Thanks to Lent, I have to post Facebook stati of interest to you directly on your blog.

"I see all these Google+ commercials with groups of friends having a place video chatting together. Part of me wishes we did that, but the only people I know on Google+ are Susan Gill (who is taking a break from social media) and Lenny Ishmael Rahaman, who would spend the whole time holding his cat up to the camera."
